Yesterday, i had a session with Giles walker, helping me with my robotic mirror arm project, which will sit in front of a projector and will enable the image or video to be thrown / moved around, by DMX, so it will enable us to control the pan / tilt of the arm from a lighting console / desk. below are some pictures of how the day went.

Here is the robotic arm itself which will hold a small mirror to reflect off a projector.
here we have a DMX interface which is linked to a lighting control software on my laptop, where i began learning to control the pan and tilt attributes in order to get this project a few steps further. we used a small DMX board to link the interface with the robotic arm, so we could manipulate and control the movements ourselves, instead of having pre-programmed features that we may not like as much as the scenes we can create manually.

this is a software i downloaded for free where we can patch the robotic arm into the software and control each channel, each channel being either pan, tilt of the claw pincher, or one section of the arm as it is made of multiple motors / components so we have more control of the arm. from this i am starting to learn more about the DMX world, and how much we can manipulate even lighting fixtures and sound. Here is the link for this software below.

EMU – Sound to Light Controller
After the help from Giles Walker with my robotic arm, i decided to have a play around with some sound, i found a sub that we have in the studio, and plugged it into a small analogue mixer (picture below) as well as plugging in two active speaker monitors to this mixer that are daisy chained, but doing that, i couldn’t get the sub working fully, so i gained the help from a fellow student, Brian, who helped me get the sound system working properly.

this is the small mixer after we got the sound system working, we changed the cables and also added in another cable for the right speaker so we can control left and right balance from the mixer, and because we had the right hand speaker daisy chained to the left speaker below, it was only outputting the left hand balance, which meant we only got sound from the left speaker for a reason that we couldn’t figure out.

here is an active speaker, which can also act as a monitor, we setup these two linked with a sub all into a small analogue mixer, in which we experimented with the bass with different genres, 3 of the genres were dance music / EDM, heavy metal and a mix of 60s, 70s and 80s tracks.
